05/20 – Scenic Drive to Chychkan

Another very, very long day of driving (about 7 hours with a few stops) retracing some of yesterday’s route and then heading off through more beautiful mountains.

The drive through the mountains was lovely.

The drive follows a mountain river

and there are four dams on the river.  We stopped at one for photos of the dam...

and reservoir.

As has been the case over the last few days we saw more herds on the road.  They are being moved to summer pastures.

We also saw an overturned big rig on the road.
  Looked a mess.

We had a lunch stop beside one of the largest lakes on the river.  The first few restaurants we checked served only fish.  Finally found one that had a few other items and the view here was great.  We had a nice rest stop.

It was a couple more hours to our hotel.  By the time we arrived it was very cool (we are now at 6,000 feet above sea level).  The grounds are very forested and a small stream runs right through the grounds and under a platform with a bunch of dining tables.

The room is very basic with no heat.  And it is very cold in the room but at least they have very good duvets that should keep us warm.  At least while we are in bed…getting up will be another matter.  After dinner they brought us a space heater so we hope it will take the worst of the chill off the room.
